That the correspondence for the April 13, 2017 meeting be received.

Carried

The Chair guided the committee through the draft Terms of Reference.

Discussion took place with regard to offering specified hours of availability for the Facebook page contact information. It was noted that it may be preferable to simply say that the ECAAC Facebook page would be monitored 'regularly'.

The Committee discussed appropriate 'Liking' of pages. It was noted that the ECAAC page would 'Like' official pages of known organizations (such as AODA or Community Living etc.) and discuss the more ambiguous articles or groups to 'Like' before committing to that. It was noted Facebook uses the 'Like' feature to network people and groups as well as for target advertising.

The Committee discussed appropriate topics to post and specified areas of focus for periods of time, such as highlighting an organization each month and outlining articles that pertain to their mantra.

Ms. Trombley indicated that the adopted Facebook Terms of Reference would be posted and pinned to the ECAAC Facebook page for ease of access.

    Motion to accept TofR

Carried

Ms. Trombley provided an overview of how to access Facebook, logging in and basic concepts of a Facebook account. She further discussed ways that posts can be boosted to keep them at the top of the discussion board. It was noted that the back-end algorithms take into account any likes and comments associated with the account.

Ms. Trombley demonstrated how to post a link to an article online and how to retrieve and respond to messages and notifications.

Rosemary Cobby to provide an update on the status.

Ms. Cobby indicated that she contacted the Essex High School Principal Mike Hawkins regarding the wheelchair basketball game. Although a date of June 2nd was tentatively discussed with him, there is room for amending that date if needed.

Mr. Queen indicated that the FCM conference is June 1st to 4th and most council members will be attending that.

Mr. Boyco indicated that he would look into alternative dates for reserving the wheelchairs and bring them back to the committee. The Committee indicated that June 9th would be a preferred date if available.

Debbie Alexander to provide an update on the status.

Ms. Alexander noted that the game is scheduled for May 30th at 7:00 PM. There are already 10 police officers committed to the event with more potentially committing in the coming weeks. She further indicated that some members of the media have expressed their desire to cover the event as well. The event is held at Essex High School.

Date of County Council meeting June 7, 2017.

The Chair led the Committee in discussing the options for the ECAAC County Council delegation.

It was decided that the Committee would present a brief summary of each workshop presentation as well as video demonstrating the accessibility movement.

The Committee will consider video options at the next ECAAC meeting.

Tuesday October 24, 2017

Ms. Trombley indicated that the facility has been tentatively reserved for October 24, 2017.

The Chair led the discussion regarding the format of the Accessibility Workshop. It was discussed that fewer speakers would likely be best, so that there are no competing sessions. Some options to consider are:

  • Keynote speaker for morning
  • 2 breakout sessions
  • Panel discussion with structured subjects and Q & A time with a moderator (Panel to include experts from varied areas of advocacy organizations and legislative representatives)
  • Continue with lunch and networking breaks
  • Shorter duration if need be, but not longer
  • Information tables - are they necessary?

Discussion regarding potential Keynote Speakers took place. The issue of re-using previous speakers was raised. Some members expressed concern that not enough time has passed for repeating keynote speakers.

It was noted that the speakers should be of highest quality and have material that is reflective of the direction/audience that the workshop intends to reach.

6.2
Access Awareness Week

Ms. Trombley indicated that there is nothing further to report on this matter as she is awaiting other municipalities to provide information on committees and activities.

Charles Wimperis to provide a revision to the document.

The matter was deferred to the May meeting.
