The meeting was called to order at 3:00 PM.

All members were in attendance virtually, with the exception of Stephanie Olewski and Rachel Jewell who sent their regrets.

There were no conflicts of pecuniary interest declared.

September 2021 - View the Issue Online

The opportunity to provide feedback regarding education standards for Kindergarten to Grade 12 and post-secondary has been extended to November 1, 2021.

The Town of Tecumseh is accepting applications for the Tecumseh Accessibility Advisory Committee (TAAC). Read about the TAAC mandate, and apply online on the Town of Tecumseh Website

October 20, 2021 - Four part webinar series 'Advocacy 101' starting on October 20th. Register Online

The Chair provided a brief update on the activities on the ECAAC social platforms. She further requested that anyone wishing to share material on these platforms can forward it on to herself or post it directly to the pages.

September 24, 2021 - Letter to ERCA RE ECAAC Recommendations #1 WECTC

The Chair noted that the attached letter including the recommendation of the ECAAC was sent to ERCA for consideration on September 24, 2021.  

Discussion RE ECAAC Platform for 2022

Suggestions for 2022 initiatives include:

  • Development of a flag for AccessAbility week (In conjunction with local lower-tier AACs. To be discussed at the local joint chairs meeting.)
  • Investigate options to invite a speaker or series of speakers for 2022.
  • We Check the Trails campaign continues,
  • Host an Accessibility Awareness walk in combination with the We Check the Trails.

The committee will continue to investigate new initiatives and compile list over time. 

  • That the County of Essex Land Acknowledgement Statement information be received. 

Information report RE County of Essex Land Acknowledgement Statement, adopted by Essex County Council on October 6, 2021.  

The Chair updated the committee regarding County Council's decision to include a Land Acknowledgement Statement at the beginning of all public meetings.  This item will be added to the ECAAC agenda going forward.

Discussion RE ECAAC Meeting Time Change to 5PM

The Committee agreed to move the meeting time to 5:00 pm going forward.

Discussion RE next ECAAC meeting date. November 11th is the Remembrance Day Holiday and falls on the usual meeting date.

It was determined that the November meeting would be difficult to reschedule.  Consensus was to forego the November meeting.

The next ECAAC meeting will be December 9, 2021 at 5:00 PM.
